As a blogger it can be easy to fall into the trap of wanting to seem as if we are an expert in everything. We start blogging in a broad niche and try to position yourself as someone that knows all there is to know about the niche – but this may not be the best option.

I am very much a supporter of having a well defined niche for your blog, and working towards becoming an expert at one thing instead of a jack of all trades. Let’s take a look at:

3 reasons to become an expert at one thing!

    1. Expert’s Make More Money

Taking the repair industry for example. Let’s say that your house has a squeaky floor board. You call up the local handyman, he fixes it and it probably wasn’t that expensive. But what if you had a problem with laptop because the screen was no longer working? Chances are that your bill to fix the problem is going to be quite expensive because this is a more specialized problem – that only a select, trained group of people can fix.

    1. Experts Build A Bigger Following

How many average bloggers do you know that have a genuine large following? People will only follow you (whether by by RSS, email list, Twitter or any other means), IF they think that they can learn something from you. Now I am not talking about news bloggers here, I’m talking about about writers that post content articles, whether that be about internet marketing, animals or social media. The important thing is to specialise on one area, and to find your niche within a niche!

    1. Experts Provide Better Content For Your Readers

If you start to focus your attention on one area, and begin to slowly become an expert, of course your content is going to get a lot more in depth and with greater quality. Your readers will subscriber and keep coming back, because your content will not only be unique but it will be scarce. As the majority of bloggers only tend to focus on a more general niche, your readers know that your content is valuable.

Being an avid blog reader, I came to realize that the bloggers that were actually making good money from their blogs, where those who had positioned themselves as an expert in their field by focusing their blogs and specializing on a fragment of their niche. The benefit as a blogger in specializing is that people buy products from specialists.

I have seen a lot of generalist bloggers come out with products that were specialised – and to be quite honest, they didn’t sell. But when you have a blogger that has a well defined niche, has set themselves up as an expert in that area, and they have a following of interested readers – any product that they create, is sure to sell!

**The less of something that is available, the more people are will to follow, read and pay for – so what do you plan on becoming an expert in?
